BETTAS by Jim Sonnier

Purple (HM-Cu) male x Purple (HM-Cu) female, spawn #121404. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier.
Offspring from
spawn #121404 should be Purple (75%) and Lavender (25%) as both
parents are carrying the Cambodian trait. There should be some
with Half Moon finnage.
This near Half Moon male is decended from the Copper color
complex and has triple ray branching (8 branches) in his caudal
plus an outstanding dorsal fin. This near Half Moon female is
also decended from the Copper color complex and has double ray
branching (4 branches) in her caudal. Both parents have wonderful
dark Purple coloration. Youngsters
should be available for sale around April 21, 2005.

Double Black near HM male x Doubletail Double Black (HM) female, spawn #112904. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier and Connie Emery.
Offspring from spawn #112904 should be 100% Double Blacks (genetically pure melano and genetically pure black lace both together in the same fish!) with some Half Moon finnage. This near Half Moon male has great Black color and triple ray branching (8 branches). This Doubletail female is also a Double Black, and has good color and form. Youngsters will not be available for sale.

Pastel Green Half Moon male x Clear (Steel-HM) female, spawn #112304. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier.
.Offspring from spawn #112304 should all be good Pastel Blues with some Half Moon finnage. This Half Moon male from spawn #080604 shows excellent finnage with triple ray caudal branching (8 branches). This near Half Moon female from spawn #071204 shows excellent color and finnage with double ray caudal branching (4 branches). The male does have a lot of Red wash but that should be removed from most of the offspring because of the female's Red-loss influence. The combination of the males Green iridescence and the female's Steel iridescence should produce 100% Blue iridescence on the fry. Youngsters should be available for sale around April 1, 2005.

Best of Show (First Coast Bettas - Fall 2004) Green Marble HM male x 1st place (First Coast Bettas - Fall 2004) Blue (HM) female, spawn #102504. These outstanding breeders were raised by Ernie Perez and Wayne McLain.
Offspring from spawn #102504 should be split between Blue Marbles and Green Marbles with lots of Half Moon finnage. These were two of the best fish at the First Coast Bettas Fall show 2004. This Half Moon male won Best of Show and has great marble coloration with triple ray branching (8 caudal branches). This 1st place female has excellent color and finnage with double ray branching (4 branches). I am looking for some outstanding Marble offspring from these parents. Youngsters should be available for sale around March 15, 2005.

Long-finned Half-Giant Green Marble male x Pastel Green near HM female, spawn #092204. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier.
Offspring from
spawn #092204 should be 100% long-finned with some Half Moon
finnage, and 50% of all the offspring should be carrying the
Plakat (short-fin) gene. 50% of the offspring should be
dark-bodied and 50% should be Cambodian. There should be some
Green Marbles and some Pastel Greens, and 50% of all the
offspring should be Half-Giants. This male from my spawn #021704
is very large and hopefully inherited some maternal Half Moon
genes. This female from my spawn #011604 has excellent finnage
with double ray branching (4 branches) and she should pass on
Half Moon characteristics inherited from both of her outstanding
parents. Youngsters
should be available for sale around January

Red Butterfly Half Moon male x Cambodian Red/White Butterfly (a-HM) female, spawn #071204. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier and Ralph Tran.
(This is a replacement spawn for spawn #051804) Offspring from spawn #071204 should be mostly Butterfly types in Brown-Red/White and Cambodian-Red/White with some Half Moon finnage. This Half Moon male shows a different type Butterfly pattern in each fin. This near Half Moon female has a nice Butterfly pattern and has triple ray branching (8 branches) in her caudal. This female also carries the Albino trait so 50% of the offspring will also carry that trait recessively. Youngsters should be available for sale around November 20, 2004.

1.5 Black Half Moon male x Steel (HM) female, sibling spawn #040704. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier.
Offspring from spawn #040704 should be about 50% Blacks (melano) and 50% Steels (melano genotypes) with some Half Moon finnage. This Half Moon male has good Black color and triple ray branching (8 branches). He also carries the Black Lace gene. This sibling female carries the Melano and Black Lace traits, and has double ray branching (4 branches). I am expecting about 12.5% Double Blacks with fertile melano females. Youngsters should be available for sale around August 21, 2004.

Red Half Moon male x Half-Giant Multicolor Plakat female, spawn #032404. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier.
Offspring from
spawn #032404 should all be multicolored (Green & Red) and
long-finned with about 50% Half-Giants. This Half Moon male was
Reserve Best of Show at Houston in 2003 and has outstanding color
and triple ray branching (8 branches). This Half-Giant Plakat
female is from my 091503 spawn. Youngsters should be available
for sale around August 1, 2004.
03.25.2004 : Female and then the male ate eggs. Both parents removed with just a few eggs left in the nest.
03.27.2004 : Looks like only 3 fry hatched out. Youngsters will not be available for sale.

Half-Giant Pastel Green male x Opaque Pastel Green (HM) female, spawn #021704. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier and Phil Lafferty.
Offspring from spawn #021704 should all be long-finned (unless the female is carrying the Plakat trait) Semi-Opaque Green Pastels with some Half Moon finnage possible. 50% of the spawn should also be Half-Giants! This is my first cross of Half-Giants into long-finned stock. This near Half Moon female has excellent color and good finnage. Youngsters should be available for sale around July 1, 2004.

Masked Blue Plakat (HM/DT) male x Blue (HM/DT) female, spawn #020204. These outstanding breeders were raised by Vinita Tippimul and Sonny Haase.
Offspring from
spawn #020204 should all be long-finned Greens, Blues, and Steels
with the possibility of some Half Moon
finnage. This fully masked male has the most
outstanding color I have seen. This near Half Moon female has
excellent color and tremendous caudal branching. These offspring
should all be partially masked, and should produce some fully
masked offspring when spawned brother to sister. Youngsters should be available
for sale around June 6, 2004.

02.04.2004 : Looks like about 500 fry hatched out. No kidding!
02.18.2004 : Got a wonderful surprise today - some of the fry are Doubletails! Normally you can tell that the breeders are carrying the DT trait because they have wide dorsals with extra rays. But neither of these breeders showed me any indication that they were carrying DT.
04.03.2004 : Jarred up 6 of the larger fry. This has been a sub-par and sickly batch. I will decide in the next couple of weeks whether or not to pull these from sale.

Semi-Opaque Pastel Green Half Moon male x Opaque Pastel Green (HM) female, outcross #011604. These outstanding breeders were raised by Jim Sonnier and Phil Lafferty.
Offspring from outcross #011604 should be excellent Pastels, Opaques, and Semi-Opaques (all light Green) with some Half Moon finnage. This Half Moon male was Pastel Male Champion at the IBC Convention in 2003 and has outstanding color and triple ray branching (8 branches). This near Half Moon female has excellent color and good finnage. Youngsters will not be available for sale as the spawn was very small.
